Art in Me

Art education and mentorship program focused on creative expression and youth empowerment. Art in me focuses on building self-esteem and career path guidance for young aspiring artists. Art in me believes that there is an artist in each of us, and art is not an act reserved for the privileged but a human right that all should have access to. We believe that all art forms contribute to holistic education and strive to bring the arts to underserved communities in Monterey County. Art in Me’s aim is to be publicly available to “pod” like groups starting in the Summer of 2021. We hope to continue subsequently in Fall 2021.

A two-week-long, arts-focused camp offered to ages 3 to 10. We aim to provide this program Monday through Friday 8 am-5 pm. We will include daily art activities, excursions to the beach and Garland Park, and a one day trip to Point Lobos and the Henry Miller Library/Big Sur Bakery in a two-week offering. The art projects are focused and designed with the following concepts as their building blocks: Inclusivity, Racial Equity & Social Justice, Sustainability and Environmentalism, Understanding and working with the Multiple Intelligences, Gender Equality, and Microeconomics.

Our aim is to provide an arts education opportunity beyond survival, teaching young emerging artists and beyond the value of creative problem solving and decisive empowerment through creative expression and microeconomics. Providing an opportunity for accessible Envisioning and Imagination building for all children in Monterey County. Utilizing an anthropological approach to art making and folkloric art, we will be studying art practices from around the world through books, stories, music, and short documentaries and applying what we learn to our own projects. Each week we will focus on a different cultural art practice through observation and hands on application. The structure of each class consists of a short discussion of the concept of each week and an introduction to the materials we will be using.
